Surveillance footage inside Langford business leads to arrest of cosmetic thief

West Shore RCMP have arrested a 55-year-old woman involved in a shoplifting incident in Langford last week.

On March 21st, RCMP received a complaint from an employee at a store located in the 800-block of Langford Parkway, reporting a theft from their business.

According to the employee, the woman had allegedly stolen $150 worth of cosmetics and fled the store when confronted.

Once reviewed by West Shore RCMP Crime Reduction Unit, video surveillance,  collected from inside the business showed the woman, who was accompanied by an accomplice. 

At approximately 3 p.m. on March 22nd, an officer located the suspect’s accomplice in the area of Peatt Road in Langford, wearing what appeared to be the same clothing from the video surveillance. 

The woman was detained and identified by the officer. 

The following day, at approximately 9:30 a.m. on March 23rd, RCMP executed a search warrant in Langford at the suspect’s residence. 

The search recovered some of the items reported stolen from the business on March 21st. 

“Even when the crimes are of minor monetary value, we are still fully investigating which includes writing search warrants, when feasible, to recover the stolen property,” said Corporal Fred Ritchie of the West Shore RCMP Crime Reduction Unit.

The suspect, a 55-year-old woman, was arrested and released for a May 26th court date.
