Suspect attempts to rob woman of purse at knife-point in downtown Victoria

A suspect was arrested minutes after attempting to rob a woman’s purse at knife-point in downtown Victoria last week.

The incident occurred just before noon on Friday, March 4th in the 1400-block of Government Street.

In a media release, VicPD said a woman was walking in the area when she was approached by a man who brandished a knife and demanded her purse.

The victim screamed and was able to distance herself from the suspect safely, at which point the suspect left the area on foot.

Police said the victim was not physically injured in the incident.

With a description in hand, officers flooded the downtown area and located the suspect within seven minutes of the incident. Officers found him at Centennial Square and were able to take him into custody without incident.

The suspect, a 25-year-old man, faces recommended charges of robbery with a weapon, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

He is also the subject of a Nanaimo RCMP warrant for failing to comply with a probation order.
