Starting next week on May 1st, license plates in BC will look a lot cleaner as ICBC moves away from yearly validation decal stickers.

The change coincides with ICBC’s official launch of the online insurance renewals.

The new system will allow drivers to renew their policy online up to 44 days in advance of it expiring and takes about 10 minutes to complete.

The online system went active on March 17th, and anyone buying a new policy or making changes to their existing policy will still need to do so in person.

To date, ICBC says about 3,000 people have already used the new method.

In February, BC Public Safety Minister Mike Farnworth said the changes were made to  improve the convenience of the renewal process.

As part of the online platform, customers will be able to renew policies, update their addresses, find out of they are eligible for discounts.

The requirement to carry a printed copy of insurance is unchanged.

So come May 1st, feel free to rip those decals off and renew your insurance online when the time comes!
