One man is in custody after he poured gasoline on an occupied boat in Esquimalt

VicPD arrested a man Wednesday morning, after he attempted to light a boat on fire with occupants onboard and uttered threats.

At approximately 5:30 a.m. on April 27th, officers responded to a report of a man pouring gasoline on an occupied boat and attempting to light it on fire  in the 500-block of Head Street in Esquimalt.

According to reports, the suspect also uttered threats toward the two boat occupants. The fire did not ignite and the suspect fled the scene

Officers spoke with the boat occupants and were able to gather a description of the suspect before they searched areas in Victoria and Esquimalt. 

At approximately 8 a.m., the suspect was located and arrested by officers in the 900-block of Pandora Avenue without incident. 

The man was transported to VicPD cells and faces recommended charges of attempted arson with disregard for human life and uttering threats.

According to officers, the incident is believed to be targeted as the suspect and victims were known to each other. 

At this time, there is no indication that this incident is related to any other ongoing arson investigations.
