One of Vancouver Island’s favourite events of the year is returning.
After a two-year hiatus, the Parksville Beach Festival Society is set to bring back its famed international sandcastle competition for 2022.
In November 2021, organizers confirmed they were planning for the return of its popular summer events and now they are promising for it to be better than ever.
Prior to COVID, the event would draw over 100,000 people over a five-week period. This year’s event will take place between July 15th to August 21nd.
In addition to the sandcastles, the Parksville Beach Festival also includes an artisans market, light up show and summer concert series.
The list of events include:
• Master sand sculpting competition and exhibition
• Sand sculpting demonstrations
• Weekend concerts
• Daily buskers
• Artisan market
• Special weekend light up of the sculptures
• Quality Foods Festival of Lights fireworks
• Quality Foods Kids Sandsculpting Competition
For two nights only, August 19th and 20th, the Sand Sculpture Exhibition will be open after dark. This event allows you to experience the sculptures in a unique and wonderfully different way. The gates are open until 11:00 p.m. on these two evenings
To date, Parksville Beach Festival has donated just over $900,000 to community groups and projects. Most recently, the society said it contributed funds towards improving accessibility and the construction of the Outdoor Performance Theatre.
