BC Ferries is offering free travel to newly arriving Ukrainians who have been displaced by war at home.
In a post on their website, BC Ferries says Ukrainians who need to take a ferry to arrive at their final destination can book a ride for free by calling the ferry operator’s customer service line.
Those displaced by the war are eligible for free one-way travel. They can travel as a foot passenger or drive a vehicle onboard. Both options will be free.
Translators and host volunteers providing travel assistance to Ukrainian citizens arriving in BC will also be eligible for free round-trip ferry travel.
Ukrainians will need to provide verbal confirmation that they’re a Ukrainian citizen with a valid Ukrainian passport and a Canada-Ukraine Authorization for Emergency Travel with a passport stamp on or after February 24th, 2022.
Those who meet the requirements can also show up in person at a ferry terminal to confirm their details and board the next boat with room so an advance booking is not needed.
“Upon receipt of this information, we will book you a fully prepaid booking on your preferred sailing or on the next available sailing to your destination,” said BC Ferries.
To book in advance, Ukrainian travellers should call 1-888-223-3779, extension 6, and provide their route, time and passenger information.
