A man was arrested last week after he allegedly broke into a vehicle, stole from a coffee shop and assaulted an officer with a pry bar.
According to VicPD, the incident began shortly after 8 a.m. on Thursday, May 26th when officers were called to a parkade in the 400-block of Belleville Street for a report of a man aggressively yelling at passersby while breaking into a vehicle.
Shortly after arriving, officers encountered the suspect and began detaining him—the suspect then stabbed an officer in the hand with a pry bar.
A brief struggle ensued and the suspect was eventually tacked to the ground and arrested.
VicPD said the officer who was struck by the pry bar suffered a cut to his hand which required medical attention, but he was able to complete his shift.
During a search of the suspect, they found a number of stolen items that linked him to a recent break and enter of a coffee shop in the 1800-block of Fairfield Road.
The suspect was also in possession of a stolen bicycle which has since been returned to the owner.
The suspect faces recommended charges of assaulting a police officer with a weapon, mischief, possession of stolen property, and possession of break and enter instruments, according to VicPD.
