With less than two weeks to go, Hillside Shopping Centre is entering the final stretch until another anchor tenant ‘rolls back’ to the mall.

Walmart is officially opening at Hillside on Thursday, June 16th—becoming the chain’s first store in Victoria and third in the capital region, next to existing locations in Saanich and Langford.

It’s a project ultimately bringing hundreds of jobs along with it, according to Felicia Fefer.

Fefer serves as Walmart’s corporate affairs manager and says the new store created around 200 trade and construction jobs, plus 300 in-store jobs once operational.

Encompassing a “contemporary look and feel,” Fefer says her team is “very excited” to open the store and calls it a ‘Supercentre’ offering general merchandise plus groceries.

Occupying a 139,000 sq. ft space formerly occupied by Sears, shoppers will find Walmart on Hillside Mall’s north side facing North Dairy Road.

“Customers will also have the option to shop in-store or online and pick up or have their orders delivered to their doors,” Fefer told Victoria Buzz in March.

Along with Walmart, a Dollarama is also coming to Hillside this spring—though an official opening date has yet to be announced.
