Rogers and Fido customers in BC won’t be able to call 911: E-Comm

A widespread network outage from Rogers has left many customers without mobile and internet service this morning and is causing problems for people calling 911.

E-Comm says it began receiving reports of the outage around 2 a.m. Friday.

As the outage continues to impact people and businesses across the country, E-Comm is warning that Rogers and Fido customers cannot call 911.

“At this time customers with either carrier are not able to use their phones to make any calls; including to 911. Please note that the 911 system is not compromised and remains fully functional. At this time the outage impacts Rogers and Fido customers only,” reads a media release.

The 911 service provider is asking people to use a landline or a different cellphone provider if their Rogers of Fido device does not connect to 911.

Rogers confirmed on Twitter that they were aware of the issue and were working to get the network back up.

“We are aware of issues currently affecting our networks and our teams are fully engaged to resolve the issue as soon as possible,” the company said.

“We will continue to keep you updated as we have more information to share.”

Majority of the outages are in BC and Ontario with most experiencing problems with the internet, phone, alarm monitoring services, and even debit and credit services.
