A man was allegedly punched in a random act of violence while waiting for a bus on the weekend.

On Sunday morning at around 9 a.m., VicPD officers were called to the intersection of Denman Street and Shelbourne Street for a report of alleged assault.

According to police, upon arrival the victim reported he had been randomly punched in his face at the bus stop. The stranger had reportedly approached him, verbally confronted him and fled the scene after hitting him.

Officers proceeded to search the area after getting a description from the victim.

A witness was able to point them toward the 2200-block of Shelbourne street where a person matching the description was seen.

Police say they located and arrested the man who matched the description given by the victim and transported him to VicPD cells.

He was later released with a future court date and conditions.

The victim of this random attack sustained non-life threatening injuries and declined medical treatment.

This incident remains under investigation.
