Oak Bay Police seek those responsible for dumping derelict boat at Cattle Point

Police are looking for those responsible after a boat was dumped into the ocean at cattle point with the intention to sink over the weekend.

On Saturday evening at around 8 p.m., Oak Bay Police received a report of someone dumping a derelict boat off the ramp at Cattle Point.

The boat was 15 feet long, had no engine and was in ill-kempt condition.

Police say it had four tires tied to it that they believe were meant to sink the vessel.

According to police, the boat was not sunk yet when they arrived on the scene and officers were able to pull it out of the water because it was still floating up against the boat ramp.

A witness reported seeing a dark vehicle towing the boat to the ramp, hearing a loud noise that may have been the boat being dumped and heard a vehicle’s tires screeching as it fled the scene.

The identification number on the vessel is 14K222265.

Witnesses reportedly told police that it was too dark outside to obtain a license plate, make or model of the vehicle that drove away.

This incident is still under investigation.
