13 things to do in and around Victoria this weekend, October 15th – 16th

From election results to celebrating Marty the Marmot’s birthday, it’s a busy weekend in Victoria.

Before you head out to enjoy the day, make sure to head to the polls and cast your vote, then, make sure to carve out some time for Marty’s birthday party while the Victoria Royals battle the Brandon Wheat Kings.

Without further ado, here are to do in and around Victoria this weekend, October 15th – 16th:

Halloween Market

Over 60 vendors selling items from the spooky to the sweet. Admission by donation to the Victoria Therapeutic Riding Association.

Frankenstein at Craigdarroch Castle

October is the best time of year to pop by one of Victoria’s most haunted locations and this year a one-man show of Frankenstein will be an added bonus to your visit.

The production of Frankenstein is set to haunt the dance hall within Craigdarroch Castle on Friday and Saturday nights beginning in October 14th.

  • When: October 14th to 29th, every Friday and Saturday at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Victoria Royals – It’s Marty’s birthday!

It’s Marty’s birthday on Saturday, October 15th and you’re invited! It’s going to be a HUGE party and they want everyone to come out and celebrate with all of Marty’s mascot friends.

There will be cake for the first 100 guests, a magician, a bouncy castle, face painting, sign making, games for kids AND a chance to win $5,000 with the Shoot to Win Contest courtesy of Western Coast Insurance Services. Tickets are also ONLY $5 for kids 12-and-under when you visit the box office this week.

Bring the entire family this Saturday to watch your Victoria Royals take on the Brandon Wheat Kings at 6:05 pm

Victoria Fall Home Show

The weekend of October 14-16 marks the 36th Anniversary of the Victoria Fall Home Show.

Night Golf at Metchosin Golf & Country Club

As the title says, enjoy an evening playing glow in the dark golf with us! Call the pro shop to save your spot, limited spots available.

Galey Farms Corn Maze

All tickets include a train ride. Hop aboard and enjoy the 1.8km of track around the perimeter of our crop-producing fields and along Blenkinsop Creek. You will go past the pumpkin patch and thru our spooktacular displays decorated for Halloween.

After your train ride you will enter our two-hectare corn maze which winds you thru our sphink, graveyard, pirates island, dino town, a ghost town and our family-friendly haunted house. You are then invited to our pumpkin patch, you can either take a leisurely stroll or you’re welcome to ride on one of our haywagons upon availability to get there.

Oktoberfest at Oaklands

The is popular event is back! Oktoberfest festival celebrates all of our favourite traditions of Munich and Bavaria, Germany, including beer, music, food and community!

Enjoy local brews from Hoyne Brewing, a bratwurst meal (vegetarian & gluten-free options available) from The Whole Beast, LIVE Band Karaoke, and GREAT company! Your ticket will include a drink ticket, meal, live entertainment, and your shot at singing your heart out with a live band!

Art Of the Cocktail

This year it’s a 60s pop art theme. Go all out boujee at the biggest cocktail party on the island. Exhibitors bring their best game to Crystal Gardens with classic and brand new spirits, alongside plentiful nosh to keep you upright. Best Dressed Competition (think 60s Pop Art theme this year), whimsical photo booth, ad great music add up to one heck of a night.

The Comic Strippers

The award winning improv comedians are back with a new show, more moves and even quicker wits.

No extreme nudity, just extreme hilarity. A fictitious male stripper troupe (played by a cast of some of Canada’s best improvisational comedians) performs a sexylarious improv comedy show. They try to be sexy… it just comes out funny. Constantly grooving and gyrating in between scenes they banter with the crowd and perform their hilarious twist on improv sketches. They sing, they “dance”, and they are ready to make you laugh. Semi undressed and completely unscripted, The Comic Strippers take off their shirts and take on your suggestions to create a whole new genre of comedy.

Rough To Ready Rock Fair

The Rough to Ready Member’s Fair will be held on the weekend of October 15th and 16th this year. As usual it will be a the Leonardo Da Vinci centre in Victoria.

The idea behind the Rough to Ready show is to allow members to dip their toe into the arena of selling their rock-related creations in a safe environment. Members’ applications for tables at the show are prioritized and selection criteria for spaces favour beginner/club sellers.

If you’ve run out of storage for your creations, or would like your hobby to become somewhat self-supporting, this is the show for you to present your wares.

    • Sunday, October 16th, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Fresh to Death

Fresh to Death, presented by Victoria Beert Society, is returning to the city Sunday, October 16th at the Esquimalt Gorge Pavillion.

The Victoria Beer Society will be celebrating the return of the annual hop harvest and BC Craft Beer Month with an afternoon featuring over 20 fresh hop beers from craft breweries all around BC, including Victoria.

To pair with these fresh hops fermentations, the Rock Bay Market’s Bird & Basket food truck will be providing some delicious food options for purchase.

Wet Future ft. Maitarra & Shale

Wet Future is an alternative rock group from Vancouver Island (Sean Lyons, Lucas Bosma, Miles McLaren and Brett Attig) and are ready to put on show that you will absolutely not forget.

This high octane 4-piece hits home hard with a wild stage presence, sexy rhythms and an emphasis on creating that huge chorus.

Combining brutally honest lyrics with driving melodies, the group is looking for your undivided attention with the help of their upcoming full length album (set to release sometime in Late 2022). “Toughen Up”, “Peppermints”, “Bittersweet”, “Piñata” and “Crooked Judge” are the first five singles from the project and can be currently found on all major streaming platforms.

Festival of Fear at Galey Farms

Galey Farms is the place to be this October with their corn maze, pumpkin patch and highly anticipated Carnevil!

If you’re looking for some real scares, mark your calendar for the Carnevil and Festival of Fear events.

The 5,000 square foot Haunted House will be ready to spook you every Thursday, Friday and Saturday starting October 13th until October 31st. The PG13 haunted house has three “chicken exits” for those that need it.
