Two men have been arrested in connection to numerous property crimes stemming from derelict boats moored in Cadboro Bay.

Saanich Police have been investigating a rise in criminal property offences while also working with the community and agency partners to address the derelict boats in the bay.

Police say they were able to connect two suspects named Thomas Cudworth and Jack Chisholm to the offences as well as the boats in question.

Officers were able to recommend charges and request warrants with the evidence collected from their investigation.

Since then, both Thomas Cudworth and Jack Chisholm have been arrested for numerous property offences and remain in police custody.

Police called the derelict boats in question a ‘Waterworld of joined boats’ when they had the Saanich Police Dive Unit deployed to search the area on Tuesday.

According to police, the divers documented pollution and debris that officers suspect belong to these boats and the owner of the boats.

Police have made contact with the owner and the investigation remains ongoing.

“We want the community to understand that we are taking this seriously and the investigation is progressing, ” said Cst. Markus Anastasiades.

“We continue to ask residents in the area to report all suspicious activities they observe to the police.”

Police are asking anyone with information can contact the Saanich Police Department at (250) 475-4321, or report anonymously through the Greater Victoria CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
