UPDATE:
Police say they determined that a cube truck veered into the oncoming lane and collided with a Mazda CX5.
The Mazda’s driver and only occupant was a 56-year-old woman who was taken to the hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.
Police continue to investigate the collision and why the truck veered into oncoming traffic.
According to police, impairment has been ruled out as a cause.
Sooke Road was reopened to two-way traffic at around 2 p.m. on Thursday afternoon.

West Shore RCMP closed down the 3800-block of Sooke Road in both directions due to a two-car collision around noon on Thursday.
Police said officers are on scene now, but the road is expected to be closed for a “number of hours.”
Commuters are encouraged to take alternate routes and avoid the area until the road is reopened.

Cpl. Nancy Saggar of the West Shore RCMP told Victoria buzz the accident involved a cube van and a passenger vehicle. The driver of the passenger vehicle is believed to have been alone in the car and is en route to the hospital.
According to Saggar, the extent of the driver’s injuries is not known at this point in the investigation.
Sooke Road will remain closed in both directions to “preserve the scene of the accident” for the West Shore RCMP’s investigation.
