A wind warning is in effect for parts of Greater Victoria to kick off the weekend.

According to Environment Canada, westerly winds are expected to reach 40 to 60 km/h starting Friday night, while winds of up to 70 to 90 km/h are predicted closer to the Juan de Fuca Strait.

Winds will persist throughout the night and into Saturday morning.

In addition to the wind warning, a special weather statement remains in place for Greater Victoria, East Vancouver Island and the southern Gulf Islands.

Between 30 to 60 millimetres of rain are expected to fall across the three regions on Friday before easing in the evening.

Once Victoria gets passed the current weather alerts, temperatures are expected to begin dropping below freezing levels.

On Tuesday, temperatures in the region are forecasted to drop to -2°C.

While the temperatures will be on the cooler side, sunshine is also in the forecast.
