

A 48-year-old man from Parksville is in critical condition and being tended to at a hospital after being struck by a vehicle on Highway 19A on Tuesday evening.
At around 8 p.m. on November 29th, an Oceanside RCMP officer who was on patrol discovered the body of a seriously injured pedestrian near Plummer Road in Parksville laying on the south side of Highway 19A.
Police say that the pedestrian appeared to have been struck by a vehicle and was left there, however, there was no vehicle at the scene.
Paramedics arrived on scene and transported the victim to hospital with “critical injuries.”
According to police, a short while after they had discovered the victim, police received a report from someone saying they “may have struck a person” on Highway 19A near Plummer Road.

Since the pedestrian was struck, the police have gathered what evidence they need from the scene and the road has been reopened.
Police seized the vehicle involved and have commenced forensic analysis of the vehicle. The driver is reportedly cooperating with the investigation.
“Although road and weather conditions at the time were dark and snowy, the investigation in to the definitive cause of the crash has not yet been established,” said Sergeant Shane Worth of the Oceanside RCMP.
An RCMP reconstructionist is assisting with the investigation which is ongoing.
