We did it, Victoria!

The weekend is here and there’s no better way to kick off your days of leisure than with a local event you’re excited about.

From slow burn to dating to car crushing giants these 5 events in and around Victoria are sure to keep you at the edge of your seat and out of the house this Friday, January 20th:

Slow burn Dating

These events welcome and support queer and/or polyamorous people, ages 25 and older.

Slowburn dating offers a different dating theme each month. The in-person events are designed to help people practice connection skills, have fun, and connect in a low pressure environment.

Everyone in attendance is open to connection in some way, but this isn’t a prescriptive “speed dating” type event where you will be expected to begin relationships. Come curious and leave your expectations at the door!

This Friday’s theme is Intention and Communication

  • Where: 888 Fort Street
  • When: Friday, January 20th

Ocie Elliott

Ocie Elliott pen tunes that feel lived-in. You can hear their memories, experiences, and emotions in the dusty acoustic guitars, the sparse production, and the graceful harmonies between Jon Middleton and Sierra Lundy.

Their life together plays out in the music as if projected on the big screen of an old small-town theatre.

  • Where: Royal Theatre, 805 Broughton Street
  • When: Friday, January 20th, 8 p.m.

Motorsports Spectacular Tour

It’s loud, it’s fast, and it’s a monstrous event that will be returning to Victoria this weekend.

Dubbed Motorsports Spectacular, the show will feature the nation’s most competitive monster trucks as they invade Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre for two straight days on January 20th and 21st, 2023.

These 10,000-pound, car-crushing giants will compete in racing and freestyle action, and if that wasn’t enough of a reason to buy a ticket, the event also features freestyle motocross.

  • Where: Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre, 1925 Blanshard Street
  • When:
    • Friday, January 20th, 7:30 p.m.
    • Saturday, January 21st, 7:30 p.m.

Miami Vice 2

Dubbed as YYJ’s biggest back to school event, a night of dancing to house music returns to the Capital Ballroom for Miami Vice 2.

Dust off your floral print shirts and celebrate the start of your weekend at the 19+ event!

  • Where: Capital Ballroom, 858 Yates Street
  • When: Friday, January 20th, 10 p.m.

Peanut Butter Telephone Ft Christopher Atkins

Peanut Butter Telephone is a collection of former and current uvic students.

Meeting at majestic park earlier this year, this 5 piece line up turned their jam sessions into full length psychedelic tunes. Blending jazz, alt, Indie and prog, PBT creates a energetic atmosphere they hope you can enjoy.

PBT has played a handful of shows in Victoria now and they’re extremely excited to be playing Victoria Event Centre again. Actual Human People and Christopher Atkins are joining them this time and all groups are excited to show their best music.

  • Where: Victoria Event Centre, 1415 Broad Street
