Police have charged the former boyfriend of a Nanaimo woman who was found dead in May of last year

Police say that after an 18-month investigation, Amy Watts, who was 26-years-old at the time of her death, may have justice

As of Monday, January 16th, her 38-year-old former boyfriend Kyle Gordon Ordway has had manslaughter charges laid against him for her death.

Police say that several years after Watts had moved to Vancouver Island from Prince Edward Island, she began a relationship with Ordway. She had been in that relationship up until her disappearance in May of 2021.

Watts was reported missing on May 27th, 2021 and her body was found in a small wooded ravine near Albert Street and Victoria Crescent in Nanaimo on June 3rd, 2021.

According to police, after Watts’ disappearance investigators put forth an exhaustive search effort in order to find sufficient evidence related to her death.

“Given that this matter is now before the courts and that an individual has been formally charged and is before the courts, police will not be providing any additional information with regards to the investigation,” said R/Cst Gary O’Brien of the Nanaimo RCMP.

Police say that Ordway is in custody for an unrelated matter and has yet to have a court appearance scheduled for the newly laid manslaughter charges.
