Premier David Eby announced on Thursday, January 26th that Victoria’s former mayor Lisa Helps has been appointed his housing solutions adviser.

In the Premier’s statement, Eby said that Helps will be working with his government’s Housing Minister, Ravi Kahlon, stakeholders and provincial partners to help design and build the BC Builds program.

Eby says that Helps will be integral in building up the initiative which will focus on what has become known as the ‘missing middle’ — middle-income families, individuals and seniors.

“The current reality is that many people in our province struggle to find housing, even if they earn a good income,” said Premier Eby.

“I’m very pleased that Lisa Helps has agreed to use her years of leadership to help us work on innovative solutions, like BC Builds, to make it easier for people to find a good place to live in their communities.”

Helps dedicated much of her time and the city’s resources to finding solutions to housing issues in Victoria throughout her two terms as mayor.

This announcement of Helps’ appointment came along with the Premier’s announcement about Dr. Penny Ballem being named the Premier’s health systems specialist and Doug White being named the special counsel to the Premier on Indigenous reconciliation.

“Doug, Penny and Lisa have tremendous amounts of experience and they are all very motivated to help take concrete action on the issues important to British Columbians,” said Premier Eby.
