Here’s what you need to know about Victoria’s Chinese Lunar New Year parade

Share

With the Lunar New Year only a couple of weeks away, the celebrations are just around the corner!

This year the Wong Sheung Kung Fu Club is inviting you to the lion dance parade.

The lions will make their way throughout Chinatown, visiting merchants as they hang donations in red envelopes also known as lucky money.

The presence of the lions will bless the merchants by bringing good luck in the new year while scaring away evil spirits from years past.

Originally founded in 1974, the Wong Sheung Kung Fu Club stands as Victoria’s oldest Kung Fu School.

Located in the heart of the Quadra Village, the well known club has been committed to preserving Chinese culture through teachings and performances of the lion dance.

Taking place on Sunday, January 29th, this parade will happen through all conditions, rain, shine or even snow!
