Portion of Goldstream Avenue in Langford to close for a month; here’s what you need to know

Commuters in Langford should prepare for delays as a major section of Goldstream Avenue will be closed for a month as crews replaces a crucial water main.

Starting today, Goldstream Avenue will be closed to thru eastbound traffic between Veteran’s Memorial Parkway and the roundabout at the mall entrance at Bryn Maur Road.

A traffic advisory was issued warning drivers to expect delays and plan for longer commuting times.

The City of Langford said access to the businesses in the area will still be available, however, officials are asking motorists not going to those businesses to avoid the area.

“Driveway access will be maintained to all businesses in the work area. The city will also work with all businesses to advertise on their behalf that business is still open,” the City of Langford stated in its traffic advisory.

Emergency vehicles and BC Transit will also have full access through the construction site.

The project will see two water mains under Goldstream between Leigh Road and Veterans Memorial Parkway replaced with one larger iron pipe.

While the entire project, which stretches 1.6-kilometre as far as Leigh Road, is estimated to take a year to complete, this section of roadway is anticipated to be closed to thru eastbound traffic until Friday, February 10th.

The construction will also impact pedestrian access, with traffic control personnel on-site during working hours to facilitate vehicles’ and pedestrians’ access to local businesses in the affected area.

There is a parking facility on Claude Road (outlined with a BLUE P in the above diagram) that the public can use to walk to the local business.

“Motorists should expect and should plan for longer commuting times. We apologize for the inconvenience,” warned the advisory.

The City of Langford has suggested a detour route and a parking facility on Claude Road that the public can use to walk to local businesses.
