Nanaimo RCMP are on the lookout  for a suspect that brandished a knife toward a grocery store clerk and robbed them.

At around 5:40 p.m. On Thursday January 26th, Superette Foods at 687 Albert Street had a masked man enter the store and rob them while threatening the clerk with a knife.

Police say they were on the scene within minutes of it being reported but were unable to locate the suspect.

An employee of the grocer told officers that the man entered wearing a mask and holding a knife. He approached a clerk and demanded they hand over the cash from the till.

According to police, after receiving an undisclosed amount of money, the suspect fled on foot and had last been seen running toward Nicol Street.

RCMP conducted a search of the area but were unable to find the suspect.

CCTV footage from the grocery store showed the suspect just before entering the business, before he had put on his mask.

Police describe their suspect as a Caucasian man, standing approximately 5’10” tall, in his mid- 30s, weighing about 175 pounds, with a heavy stubble, wearing a dark hoodie and gloves.

Police ask that anyone who has information on the identity of the suspect, call Nanaimo RCMP at (250) 754-2345.

Superette was forced to close after the incident for the remainder of Thursday and they reopened on Friday.

We are closed for the night. We have been robbed yet again. Will post updates as they become available. Thank you and we apologize for any inconvenience. Update: no one on shift was physically harmed.
