This week the Victoria Royals unveiled a unique line of Lunar New Year jerseys commemorating the vibrant Chinese community throughout Greater Victoria.

The uniforms feature symbols and visual images tributing the Chinese culture paired with a red and gold colourway as a symbol of luck.

On Saturday, January 14th the Royals will swap the black and blue with these jerseys as they host the Kelowna Rockets at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre.

This game will be sponsored by Victoria-based investment group, Fancy Ching Wealth Management.

A native of Hong Kong and 30-year resident of Victoria, Fancy Ching is donating $10,000 to the Victoria Chinese Public School and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Victoria Capital Region to help make a difference in the lives of the children.

In addition to the investment, students and staff of the public school have been invited to the game on Saturday to cheer on the Royals.

For those that love the design of the Lunar New Year jerseys, you’re in luck. These jerseys will be put up for auction during Saturday’s game.

The proceeds from the auction will be donated to the Victoria Chinese Heritage Foundation which is committed to supporting the Victoria Chinese Public School Scholarship Fund.

This has been a busy week for the Royals after making a bold decision to stay the course of the WHL trade deadline which ended on Tuesday, January 10th.

The decision to not make trades came out of the confidence Royals General Manager and Head Coach, Dan Price, has in his current team.

“We’re very confident in this year’s group,” said Price in a press conference. “We’re looking at it in terms of the immediate picture this year and the macro-perspective over the next two to three years…Sometimes the best move is the one you don’t make.”

Having won five of their last eight games, the Royals are looking to continue this momentum as they return to home ice this weekend for the first time in 2023 against divisional rival the Kelowna Rockets.
