Four Vancouver Island cities have been listed as some of the province’s most economically resilient destinations in the ninth annual BC Business city guide.

Cracking the top three in 2022, the City of Parksville ranked 3rd in 2022 and 5th in 2021.

“2022 continued to present challenges for Parksville businesses as they adapted to the COVID reality, proving their resiliency during difficult times. Everyone should be very proud of this accomplishment and recognition from BC Business,” said Parksville Mayor, Doug O’Brien in a press release.

BC Business stated that Parksville knocked it out of the park noting, “Parksville, popular with tourists and retirees, is the top performing city on Vancouver Island. Healthy household finances, strong residential sales, low unemployment and solid performance on many other indicators has kept it within our ranking’s top ten communities for three years running.”

Among Parksville’s notable mentions, Sidney (4th), Langford (8th), and Central Saanich (9th) also cleared the top 10.

The annual ranking of fifty BC communities examines indicators such as social, economic resilience, population growth, resident sense of belonging, and environmental aspects.

A detailed breakdown of its ranking system can be found on BC Business’ website.
