Controversial psychologist Jordan Peterson coming to Victoria this spring

Share

Jordan B. Peterson is a Canadian psychologist, author and professor of psychology whose rise to fame came about because of his controversial views.

Peterson will be speaking live in Victoria at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre (SOFMC) on Friday, May 19th. Tickets go on sale on February 17th.

The controversial psychologist’s accolades include consulting for the UN Secretary General, advising several major Canadian law firms and lecturing extensively throughout North America and the United Kingdom.

He has written three books: Maps of Meaning (1999), 12 Rules for Life (2018) and Beyond Order (2021). His publisher, Penguin Random House Canada, had to hold a town hall meeting with its employees prior to his third book, Beyond Order, being published due to Peterson’s controversial views.

Peterson became a household name for his opinions on free-speech and political correctness after gaining popularity in the public eye via his YouTube channel.

The speech that put him in the spotlight took place in 2016 when Peterson spoke publicly in protest of Bill C-16 which would enforce people to use each other’s preferred pronouns or risk a fine and even possible jail time.

Since then, he has faced public scrutiny and become polarizing for conservative views his critics have called misogynistic, transphobic and homophobic.

His controversial nature and perspectives are likely to garner protests in support as well as in opposition to his appearance at SOFMC, as his world tour has in many other cities across Canada.
