After a serious health scare hit home for Cory and Mandy, the local owners of Frickin’ Delight Donuts were forced to temporarily close the doors of their beloved donut shop.

While fighting an infection in his foot throughout the early half of February, Cory was recently sent to urgent care at the Royal Jubilee Hospital where he was told by doctors he will have to go through a partial amputation of his foot.

In a social media post shared on the couple’s Instagram, Mandy shared updates on the state of Cory’s condition and her thoughts and feelings throughout the ordeal.

“If you know us, you know that we do not sit down in a challenge. What we have overcome to rebuild a life and business is a testament to who we are, and I never take for granted how we are supported,” said Mandy.

“I am asking, that if you are able to contribute, even if it is a share or kind/supportive message to my beloved. Please send what you can,” said Mandy.

Since the post was shared on February 16th, hundreds of people have shared messages of support and encouragement to the couple who have already overcome great challenges moving their business from Alberta to Vancouver Island.

With the public’s support, a GoFundMe fundraiser was suggested, and within 23 hours of its official launch, it has since raised $7,835 of its $10,000 goal.

Sarah Mavro, a longtime donut fan and friend of Mandy and Cory, has organized the fundraiser, sharing positive and candid words of encouragement about the couple.

“If you’re here you are probably aware that two frickin awesome people- Cory and Mandy- have been trying to navigate through some very difficult times. They’ve put everything they have into relocating their business (Frickin Delights Donuts) from Devon, AB to Victoria, BC and have begun flourishing after rebuilding through a pandemic and several unexpected personal/business struggles,” said Hunter.

While Cory recovers and rehabilitates post-surgery, Frickin Delights Donuts will remain closed. During this time Mandy hopes the public will continue to show support during this difficult time as the couple takes the next few weeks to be together.

“I am planning to reopen in a reduced way over this next month so that I can keep business going and the bills paid. I have received many generous offers of help to make this happen,” said Mandy.
