Here’s why you may hear military activity in Victoria and Metchosin this week

Don’t be alarmed if you hear gunshots coming from the CFB Esquimalt area this week.

According to the Maritime Forces Pacific residents in Victoria and Metchosin could see signs of military activity on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Naval Security Team’s (NST) small-boat procedures will also include sirens, horns, searchlights and flashing blue lights.

The Department of National Defence issued the warning stating some of the sounds from the base could be startling.

The exercises will take place between 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Tuesday, February 28th and Wednesday, March 1st, the Naval Security Team (NST) will be conducting security exercises.

These drills will feature the use of sirens, searchlights, horns, flashing blue lights, and the firing of blank ammunition.

Those training this week are a group of specially trained sailors that work with the Royal Canadian Navy.
