One person has been hospitalized with serious but non-life threatening injuries after an assault in downtown Victoria Wednesday afternoon.

The incident occurred at around 3:45 p.m. near a busy intersection in the 500-block of Yates Street.

Multiple witnesses called 911 to report that a person was attacked by a group of people.

When officers arrived, they located the victim who they say was assaulted with a weapon. Witnesses tell Victoria Buzz the victim was stabbed.

The area where the attack occurred was closed off to the public as forensic officers collected evidence. The investigation caused traffic disruptions during rush hour.

The victim was transported to hospital and their condition is unknown at this time.

Police say no arrests have been made and the investigation remains in the early stages.
