Some Greater Victoria bus routes temporarily suspended this Thursday due to weather

Victoria received a small amount of snowfall on Wednesday night but some areas of the capital region are worse off than others. 

The Trans-Canada Highway had to be shut down temporarily Wednesday night between the Colwood and Millstream exits due to weather conditions and numerous vehicular collisions. Several BC Transit buses were involved in the collisions that led to the closure.

In addition to the snowfall that befell the island, a nasty wind has been and continues to be pushing Victorians around as they make their commutes. 

BC Transit has had to temporarily cancel or alter some routes due to the adverse weather for Thursday, February 23rd.

“We are advising customers of potential impacts to transit due to snow and icy road conditions on Thursday, February 23rd, 2023,” said BC Transit in a statement.

“Customers are strongly encouraged to check before they travel for any impacts to their routes.”

The following routes will be affected on February 23rd:

  • R-22 Vic General/Hillside – Back to regular route.*
  • R-47 Goldstream/Downtown – No Gorman/Goldie/Thetis Heights.
  • R-48 Happy Valley/Downtown – not servicing Cairndale or Stornoway. 
  • R-50 Langford – Back to regular route.*
  • R-52 Bear Mountain/Colwood – Not servicing Bear Mountain, or Lombard and will service Cairndale going to Colwood, and service Stornoway going to Bear Mountain. Turning around using a roundabout on Millstream/Bear Mountain.
  • R-53 Vic General/Langford – Cancelled.
  • R-54 Metchosin – No William Head, Duke or Lombard.
  • R-55 Happy Valley – No William Head, Duke or Lombard.
  • R-56Thetis Heights/Langford – Cancelled.
  • R-57 Thetis Heights/Langford – not servicing Gourman/Goldie. Using Millstream roundabout.
  • R-59 Triangle Mountain – Cancelled.
  • R-60 Wishart – Cancelled.
  • R-61 Sooke/Langford – Back to regular route.*
  • R-83 Sidney/Brentwood Bay – not servicing Beaver Lake/Quayle. Routing from Interurban/West Saanich.

*All Langford Routes are not servicing the stop at Phipps and Langford Parkway at this time.

BC Transit will be providing updates through their website and will provide an update at 10 a.m. this morning. 

“Please leave plenty of time for your journey as we will work hard to get you to your destination.”

According to the latest weather forecast, there is a small chance of light flurries this morning but will clear by the afternoon. Wind gusts are expected to stick around most of the day causing temperatures to feel like -10°C for most of the day.
