A welfare check conducted by Quadra Island RCMP earlier this month led to the discovery of a deceased person which prompted a homicide investigation.

According to RCMP, on January 16th, officers responded to a wellness check of a resident at a home on Quadra Island.

When Quadra Island RCMP officers entered the home, they discovered the body of a 39-year-old woman who they were preforming a check on.

Police say investigators gathered evidence from the scene that indicate her death appears criminal in nature.

The Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit has since taken over the case.

“With the assistance of the Vancouver Island RCMP General Investigation Section and the RCMP Forensic Identification Section, investigators gathered evidence indicating the death appeared criminal in nature,” said Corporal Alex Bérubé, spokesperson for the RCMP in British Columbia.

Bérubé add that investigators believe this incident was targeted and there is no risk to the public.
