Not your typical ‘joy ride’ in Victoria…

While patrolling the Galloping Goose Trail on February 21st, the West Shore RCMP bike unit rolled up to a man and woman riding a stolen wheelchair belonging to the Victoria General Hospital.

Officers determined their ride was stolen property and arrested the two suspects.

Upon searching the two in question, police uncovered a large quantity of drugs, including approximately 14 grams of suspected crack cocaine, unknown pills, drug trafficking paraphernalia, a knife and a collapsible baton.

Additionally, police say both suspects were bound by court orders not to possess any weapons.

They were also arrested for trafficking controlled substances and have since been released. The investigation is ongoing and police expect charges will be laid.

“This is exactly the sort of proactive drug and property crime enforcement that our Bike Patrol Unit was designed to address,” said Cpl. Don Gaven, who is in charge of the West Shore RCMP Bike Patrol Unit.
