48th Annual Flower Count launches at Fairmont Empress today

Share

Let the counting begin!

On Wednesday, the 48th annual Flower Count will commence on the lawn of the Empress.

The annual event is slated to kick off at 10 a.m. on March 8th, outside of the Fairmont Empress—a beloved local tradition with deep roots in Victoria.

The highly visual setting in Victoria’s inner Harbour features the impeccable gardens of the Fairmont Empress — an icon of Canadian tourism for 115 years.

With the goal of spreading cheer to the residents of Greater Victoria, participants are encouraged to stop and count the flowers while out in their communities.

The lighthearted competition will take place from 1 March 8th until March 15th.

Those looking to participate are asked to post their own flower count and encourage friends and family to do the same on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.

Use #FlowerCount on Instagram to connect with the counting community!

Participants receive one entry by tagging #FlowerCount in the related garden and floral posts on Instagram.

Entrants must have a public Instagram account and we must be able to notify the winner by direct message on March 16th.

Last year, Colwood was crowned the “Bloomingest Community”, with an incredible 9.64 billion blooms reported in the region. Saanich came in second with 9.25 billion, North Saanich with 8.12 billion and Victoria with 1.4 billion.

Happy counting!
