From local art shows to welcoming poetry sessions, here are five things happening in and around Victoria this Thursday, March 23rd:

114th Annual Art Exhibition & Sale

As thousands have, over the 114 years that this show has been presented, you, your family and friends owe it to yourselves to visit this art exhibition and sale.

Local artists along with Glen Lyon Norfolk Students will be exhibiting. Guests can look forward to free admission and door prizes.

March Mela – Punjabi Club Night

From old-school classics to new punjabi bangers, DJ Gav & DJ ASJ are spinnin’ all types of punjabi music from 9pm to 2am.

The night will be full of surprises including live dhol performances and many unseen effects.

Treasure Island

One of the best-known adventure tales in western literature – Robert Louis Stevenson’s 1883 children’s classic, Treasure Island, is a fast-moving story of buccaneers and gold, treasure maps and stowaways, which will blast away audience’s winter cobwebs.

Treasure Island has powerfully influenced how modern audiences think of pirates and is one of the most dramatized “coming of age” adventure stories of all time.

Audiences will have the chance to hear this tall tale in the Castle ballroom, where Jason Stevens will bring Long John Silver, Ben Gunn, Black Dog and the other infamous characters to life as only he can.

Victoria Poetry Project

The foundation of the Victoria Poetry Project, Tongues of Fire (ToF) is the longest-running poetry open mic on lekwungen territory today.

ToF shows consists of an open mic for the first half of the evening, followed by a performance set by invited poet, Stephanie Wong.

Club Kid Couture presents Bukkha

Hailing from Lafayette, Louisiana, Bukkha started producing dub music in 2007 with his debut vinyl release dropping just 2 years later backed with a remix from none other than Radikal Guru. Praised for his uniquely energetic DJ sets, he was a figurehead in the gulf coast dub/bass scene until 2016, before emigrating to Spain, where he now resides.
