A house fire at a Nanoose Bay home yesterday has claimed the life of one person.

The Nanoose Bay Volunteer Fire Department and Oceanside RCMP were called to a house fire in the 2200 block of Northwest Bay Road just before 5 a.m. Wednesday, March 29th.

Upon arrival, first responders learned that one of the residents may have still been inside the house which was fully engulfed.

Once the fire was extinguished, a person was found deceased inside. Investigators have ruled out criminality as a cause of the blaze.

This is the second house fire in the mid-island that has claimed a life in the last couple months. On February 23rd, one person has died following a house fire early Wednesday morning in Whiskey Creek.

Emergency crews were called to a residential property in the 3800 block of Marples Road.

Responding firefighters from the Coombs-Hilliers Volunteer Fire Department arrived to the property to find the home fully-engulfed in flames.

The cause of both fires and death remains under investigation.
