Nanaimo woman suffers serious injuries after being struck by car

Share

Late at night on Tuesday, a vehicle struck a pedestrian in Nanaimo near the intersection of Highway 19a and Mostar Road/Rutherford Road.

At around 11:20 p.m. on February 28th, police say a woman was struck by an older model of Volkswagen Jetta, which was driving southbound in the slow lane when the collision took place.

Nanaimo RCMP believe the victim was attempting to walk across the highway from Mostar Road to Rutherford Road when she was struck.

Police, paramedics and firefighters all responded and they treated the victim at the scene before transporting her to the Nanaimo hospital for further treatment.

The driver of the Jetta, who is also an adult woman, remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, according to police. Alcohol and drugs have both been ruled out as contributing factors to the collision.

Police say the victim was wearing dark non-reflective clothing when she was struck by the car.

Emergency crews closed down both lanes of the highway for several hours to investigate the incident thoroughly, and the vehicle has been towed for mechanical inspection.

Nanaimo RCMP were unable to identify any immediate witnesses who might have seen the collision. They are asking anyone who may have witnessed the collision or has dashcam footage of the incident to contact Nanaimo RCMP at (250) 754-2345.
