The rumours are true.

Red Barn Market will be opening a new store on the Saanich Peninsula at the former Sandown Race Track location in North Saanich.

In an email to Victoria Buzz, Russ Benwell, one of four partners in Red Barn Market, confirmed the company was opening its 8th location at the Sandown Park Shopping Centre, across the highway from Sidney.

The independent grocer and deli operator said the new location would be about 10,000-square-feet, making it their largest store to date.

Construction of the the second phase is slated to get underway later this year and will include five to seven new leasing opportunities.

Benwell told Victoria Buzz other new anchor tenants will include Dollarama who currently have a store across the Pat Bay Highway. BC based, Springs Group liquor store, are also expected to open their first location on Vancouver Island.

The expected opening date for the new Red Barn Market is in the summer of 2024.
