Another shooting over the weekend in Nanaimo has left one man with a gunshot wound to the face.

Nanaimo RCMP say a 39-year-old man is in the hospital with a serious but non life-threatening injury that was caused by a shooting on Bastion Street on Saturday, March 18th.

At around 8 p.m. on March 18th, the shooting took place near the Coast Bastion Hotel at 11 Bastion Street and was reported by Community Safety Officers who were patrolling the area.

The victim flagged down these officers and was bleeding heavily from his face from a gunshot wound.

Paramedics were called to the scene and provided emergency care before transporting the victim to the Nanaimo General Hospital for further treatment.

Investigators closed the area to the public so they could gather evidence from the parking lot and surrounding area.

According to Nanaimo RCMP, no arrests have been made thus far in their investigation.

Police ask that anyone who has information on this incident which includes video, photos or dashcam footage of the Coast Bastion Hotel from 7:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., on Saturday March 18th, call Nanaimo RCMP at (250) 754-2345.

This is the second shooting in the city this month. On March 12th, a resident was shot after he allegedly tried to retrieve items stolen from his business.

No suspects have been arrested in that incident either and the victim, Clint Smith remains in hospital.
