Suspicious death in Sooke prompts Major Crime Unit investigation: RCMP

Share

The Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit (VIIMCU) has been called on to investigate the suspicious death of a man near Sooke yesterday.

Sooke RCMP say on Sunday, March 12th at around 9:45 p.m., paramedics were called to a report of a man requiring medical attention in the 8500-block of West Coast Road near Otter Point Park.

Police and paramedics arrived at the scene to find the man was already deceased.

The investigation has so far shown that the man was likely injured in a remote wilderness area near Jordan River, according to Sooke RCMP.

Given the nature of the victim’s death, the VIIMCU has been notified and will be henceforth leading the investigation with aid from Sooke RCMP officers.

“The investigation is still in its infancy but police have no information to indicate that there is an ongoing threat or risk to the general public,” says Sergeant Chris Manseau with the BC RCMP.

“The public can expect to see an increase in police activity in the area of Sooke and Otter Point over the next few days while the investigation takes place.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact the VIIMCU information line at (250) 380-6211.

This is the second occasion over the past week that VIIMCU has taken over a suspicious death case on Vancouver Island. A woman’s body was found deceased near Ladysmith last Wednesday, March 8th.

That investigation is also ongoing.
