Wrestling is returning to the south island, this time invading the heart of downtown Victoria!
Those in attendance should gear up for a night of high-energy, bone-crunching fun as Vancouver Island Pro Wrestling (VIPW) brings its wrestling troupe to town.
The event, which is set to take place on Friday, April 21st at the Centennial United Church Gym, will see Victoria’s first pro wrestling steel cage match in 37 years.
The steel cage match is considered one of wrestling’s most dangerous matches, as the structure serves to keep competitors inside the ring while also becoming instrumental in the carnage between the ropes.
B.J. Laredo of Nanaimo will defend the VIPW ‘Anarchy Rules’ championship against ‘The Momentaker’ Jordie Taylor inside the cage, promising an intense and thrilling encounter.
“Without question, Jordie Taylor is one of the most ruthless competitors I’ve ever faced,” admits Laredo. “And he’s no stranger to cage matches either, so I’m preparing for the fight of my career in Victoria.”
In addition to the headline event, the supporting card features an array of talent from across Canada and the United States, including Toronto’s “Wild Child” Jody Threat.
Threat, who has been dominant in wrestling circles in Ontario, recently appeared in televised matches for the Jacksonville, Florida-based All Elite Wrestling and is recognized as one of the top women in the sport today.
Threat will challenge local mainstay Riea Von Slasher in one of two ladies matches on the card.
Wrestling enthusiasts can purchase tickets for the event at Legends Comic Books and Dragon Impact. For more information, wrestling fans can check out the full line up for the event on Facebook.
Victoria has a long and storied history of professional wrestling, dating back to the era of “Whipper” Billy Watson and Gene Kiniski waging war at the old Memorial Arena.
The island sports league is keeping that tradition alive by bringing one of wrestling’s most distinct matches back to Victoria. Don’t miss out on the excitement as VIPW brings the steel cage match to town.
