Alleged road rage incident snarls traffic on Mckenzie Avenue Thursday morning (UPDATED)

Traffic was snarled along a major route Thursday morning after an alleged road rage incident began in the West Shore area.

At 7:23 a.m. this morning, West Shore RCMP were called to a report of a road rage incident taking place near the Trans Canada Highway and Millstream Road in Langford. 

When officers arrived on scene, they were told  a verbal altercation took place between the drivers of a Honda Civic and Toyota Rav 4. 

While briefly stopped in traffic, the driver of a Toyota Rav 4 struck the Honda Civic with a large metal wrench before getting back in his vehicle and driving to Saanich. 

As the West Shore RCMP followed in pursuit of the assailant, Saanich police were advised that the suspect’s vehicle was headed their way.

West Shore RCMP intercepted the Rav 4 near the intersection of  Mackenzie Avenue and Glanford Road.

Photos posted to social media show multiple West Shore RCMP vehicles surrounding a vehicle and a man being arrested. 

According to West Shore RCMP, a suspect was arrested for mischief under $5,000 and drive without due care and attention. The vehicle was towed and traffic in this area was backed up briefly while officers attended the scene.

Along with RCMP, Saanich PD were called to the incident that took place eastbound on McKenzie Avenue from the highway. 

According to Cst. Marcus Anastasiades of Saanich Police, there was a traffic stop and the vehicle was later towed causing significant traffic delays.

No physical injuries were reported.
