Ladysmith has been converted into the sleepy, fictional town of Patience, Colorado.
All street banners, business names and street signs have changed to reflect the fictional town so that the television show Resident Alien can resume filming in town for its third time.
The show first aired in 2021 and most of the first season was shot in Ladysmith circa 2020 during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Resident Alien is ‘Certified Fresh’ on Rotten Tomatoes with a rating of 94% and it has a score of 8.1 out of 10 on IMDb. It has won numerous awards and been nominated for more, but it has never been nominated for a Golden Globe or an Emmy.
The synopsis of the show is that an alien crashes on earth in Patience, Colorado. There it takes the form of and life of Harry Vanderspeigle, the town doctor.
His mission is to kill all humans, but these plans are interrupted by a 9-year-old boy who sees through his disguise and can tell he is an alien.
The alien tries living a simple life as the town doctor but he gets roped into all kinds of hijinks around town all the while debating whether or not to kill all humans as he initially intended.
The lead character, Harry Vanderspeigle, is played by Alan Tudyk, best known for his role in Star Wars: Rogue One as K-2SO, the quick witted droid or his roles in Firefly and A Knight’s Tale.
The lead actress is Sara Tomko who plays Astra Twelvetrees. Her character is a kindred spirit of Vanderspeigle’s who left her abusive husband at the same time as the alien spaceship crash landed on earth.
Tomko is best known for her roles in Once Upon a Time and Sneaky Pete.
If you like Third Rock From the Sun or Solar Opposites, this dark comedy will be right up your alley.
