Here’s how to vote for the local bands you want to play Laketown Shakedown

Share

This year Laketown Shakedown is putting the power into the fans hands by allowing them to cast their vote for who is going to take the stage at Laketown Ranch.

Local bands can apply to play one of the largest stages in western Canada through the Laketown Shakedown website and have been able to since April 12th.

Since the call to action for any and all local Vancouver Island musical acts went out, over 80 bands have applied to play the festival.

The deadline to apply is April 26th, which is this Wednesday. After that, people will still be able to vote for their favourite and the band who has the most votes will get the chance to play in front of thousands of people at one of the island’s biggest events of the year.

Saltwater Cowboy, a local band who recently headlined a nearly sold-out last show at Capital Ballroom have put their names in the hat and are hopeful of a reunion show.

Other local favourites are Hillsboro and a former Zone band of the month, the Poubelles who had the chance to play the big stage at Laketown Ranch last year as an opener for Tom Cochrane at Laketown Rock.

Bands simply have to submit a video of a live performance of theirs for voters to watch and vote for.

The headliners for Laketown Shakedown were announced just over a month ago on March 22nd. The big names are Shaggy, Aqua, Classified, Portugal the Man, Third Eye Blind and Bif Naked this year and there are many other genre-diverse acts to give a bit of something for every type of music fan.

Laketown Shakedown will take place over the Canada Day long weekend once again from June 30th to July 2nd.

For a sneak peak, music fans can listen to the official Laketown Shakedown playlist on Spotify.
