Highway 18 is temporarily closed after a head-on collision claimed the life of one person Wednesday afternoon.
On the afternoon of April 26th, at around 1:45 p.m., a head-on collision between two vehicles occurred just east of Lake Cowichan, claiming the life of one driver and leaving another with serious injuries.
The accident involved a minivan traveling westbound and a flatbed truck traveling eastbound, which collided head-on.
Unfortunately, the driver of the minivan passed away at the scene of the accident. The driver of the truck was airlifted to the hospital with serious injuries.
RCMP responded to the accident and are currently investigating the cause of the collision.
Traffic analyst and Lake Cowichan RCMP officers are working together to determine the events leading up to the crash.
In the meantime, the highway is expected to remain closed in both directions until approximately 7 p.m. to allow authorities to investigate and clear the scene.
