The District of Sooke put out a public notice on Friday, April 14th, saying that crews would be taking over part of the town to film near the end of the month.
The filming will take place over two days, April 28th and 29th, and residents of Sooke can expect a few road and park closures during that time.
On April 28th, drone and handheld cameras will be deployed throughout Sooke, but no big closures should affect residents until the following day.
Production-based closures will take place between 7 a.m. to 2 p.m on April 29th at Ed MacGregor Park including the Rotary Pier and Sooke Marine Boardwalk. Whiffin Spit will also be closed down for filming from 6:30 a.m. to 8 p.m on April 29th. .
According to the District of Sooke, no access to these parks and their associated parking lots will be permitted during production.
The question of what they could be filming at these unique locations has people from all over Victoria buzzing.
“Sooke will be the scene for at least one episode of a popular TV series,” said Christina Moog, Communications Coordinator for the District of Sooke.
The production that is being filmed is still shrouded in mystery for the time being, but there are a few television series that are scheduled to be filming at this time on Vancouver Island that it could be.
“The production name is kept confidential,” Moog told Victoria Buzz. “We know that the opportunity is for a popular TV series and is providing thousands of dollars to our local economy.”
One frontrunner for what the series could be is Reginald the Vampire, which is scheduled to be shooting its second season from March to July, 2023. This series stars Jacob Batalon — best known as Tom Holland’s “guy in the chair” from Marvel’s Spider-Man franchise — and has filmed in and around Victoria since the get-go.
It could also be Resident Alien, which has taken over Ladysmith to shoot its third season and could be making its way down island to utilize Sooke’s unique landscape and geographic features for filming locations.
Under the Bridge is a new series telling the story of Reena Virk’s tragic death that is filming on Vancouver Island. Its production schedule says it will be filming for “a couple of days at the end of April” which lines up with the timeframe, but it is unclear on where it will be filming.
