Lockdown procedure initiated at multiple West Shore schools during police incident

At around 3:30 p.m. on April 27th, West Shore RCMP and Royal Roads University tweeted about an ongoing police situation.

The incident prompted ‘hold in place’ procedures to be initiated at Royal Roads University and École John Stubbs Memorial School, which were both in lockdown for around one hour.

“Police are investigating an incident that took place in the park near John Stubbs School,” said West Shore RCMP’s tweet at 3:34 p.m.

“The school was placed into a hold and secure for a short period of time.”

At 3:42 p.m. Royal Roads lifted their ‘shelter-in-place’ order.

According to West Shore RCMP, two males were seen around 2:30 p.m. in a vehicle near College Road and Thetis Crescent. Witnesses reported they were in the possession of a “long gun”.

Police say they secured the area immediately and issued warnings to John Stubbs and Royal roads given the institutions’ proximity.

Shortly after 3:30 p.m., the two suspects were found and arrested safely. The long gun they had in their possession was an airsoft rifle, according to police.

The two men are now in police custody and all hold in place orders have been lifted.

At this time, there is no longer any further threat to the public.
