A 40-year-old man is facing a seven-day impoundment and multiple violation tickets after being caught speeding on his motorcycle on Elk Lake Drive in Saanich.

The incident occurred on the morning of March 29th, when a member of the Capital Regional District Integrated Road Safety Unit (CRD IRSU) was conducting speed enforcement.

The officer spotted the motorcyclist accelerate and cross a solid double line into the oncoming lane before passing the vehicle in front of him.

The motorcyclist was travelling at a speed of 106 km/h in a 50 km/h zone. The officer immediately pulled over the offender and impounded his 2013 Honda motorcycle.

Staff Sergeant Adam Tallboy, acting OIC of BCHP Vancouver Island, issued a statement urging motorcyclists to follow the rules of the road and drive in a predictable manner, which is what other motorists expect. He also warned that the authorities would not tolerate dangerous driving or excessive speeding.

The motorcyclist in question received violation tickets for excessive speeding and failing to keep right of a double solid line.
