Suspect arrested for murder after victim dies in connection with Fairfield HAZMAT incident

One man has been arrested for murder in connection to a HAZMAT incident which occurred on Chester Street in Fairfield last month.

Michael King, who had already been charged with aggravated assault, has now been arrested and charged with murder after his victim, a 70-year-old man, died in hospital due to injuries. 

On March 6th, VicPD attended the 400-block of Chester Street and found the victim inside a residence with life-threatening injuries along with materials police considered to be potentially hazardous.

The street was blocked off for nearly 48 hours while a HAZMAT team cleared the scene and made sure the residence was safe to enter and police investigated.

King was arrested the same day for aggravated assault. According to police, he turned himself in at a neighbouring police station.

The victim of this incident died in hospital on March 15th as a result of his injuries and on April 4th, VicPD located and arrested King for murder. 

King remains in custody and VicPD say no further details of the investigation will be shared at this time because the matter is now before the courts.
