Two people were arrested after a bizarre incident at a Victoria playground caused concern over social media.

In the morning of Wednesday, April 26th, an online commotion was started when a man claimed to have witnessed two adults dig a hidden weapon out from underneath the merry-go-round at the Quadra Heights playground.

At around 7:30 a.m., a man named Gord was taking his dog on a walk in Quadra Heights Park near Mayfair Mall when two adults, a man and a woman who were in their 20s to 30s, ran towards them.

The man dove underneath the playground’s merry-go-round and began digging, according to Gord. When he stood back up, the man was holding a weapon  thought to be an AR-15 rifle along with bullets.

Gord managed to snap a picture of the two suspects casually walking away from the park which he tweeted and reported to VicPD.

VicPD have not released a full press release on the situation as of this publication but Constable Terri Healy did tell Victoria Buzz that the two suspects were located and arrested by police and the weapon they dug out of the playground was actually a crossbow and not a firearm.

The crossbow is a prohibited weapon, however, so the two suspects may face charges for possession of a prohibited weapon.

The file is still under investigation, according to VicPD.
