You can now order cannabis straight to your doorstep in Victoria

You may not be able to take an Uber as a passenger in Victoria but soon you’ll be able to order marijuana delivered straight to your doorstep through their food delivery service, Uber Eats.

Beginning on April 18th, just two days before ‘4/20’, Victoria residents who are 19-years-old or over will be able to order cannabis deliveries through Uber Eats.

Uber Eats partnered with Leafly, an online cannabis marketplace and information hub, to make this a possibility for Victorians.

“More British Columbians are accessing legal cannabis than ever before,” said Klaas Knieriem, General Manager of New Verticals for Uber Eats Canada.

“We are partnering with industry leaders like Leafly to help retailers offer safe, convenient options for people in British Columbia to purchase legal cannabis for delivery directly to their homes.

“This will help reduce impaired driving and improve road safety.”

Just like in-store purchasing of cannabis products, customers will have to present two forms of legal identification.

To order marijuana through the app, simply select the “Recreational Cannabis” category, confirm you are at least 19-years-old, place an order from a nearby retailer, track your order on your device and when the delivery driver arrives, provide identification.

This partnership will instantly increase access to cannabis for people who are not able-bodied, elderly and those who don’t have access to a vehicle.

New research from Public First also indicates this partnership will help reduce impaired driving.  The study suggests that 1 in 7 (14%) cannabis users admitted to having driven a vehicle within two hours of consuming cannabis.

The rollout of retailers will be slow at first, with only seven retailers in BC partnering with Uber Eats.

The only cannabis retailer to join Uber Eats in Greater Victoria is Original Farm Cannabis.

The other cannabis retailers on the platform in British Columbia are:

  • Sea to Sky (Vancouver)
  • Original Farm Cannabis (four locations in Vancouver and Victoria)
  • Leisure For Cannabis (Vancouver)
  • ARCannabis (four locations in Vancouver)
  • 4Twenty Cannabis (two locations in Vancouver)
  • North Shore Cannabis (Vancouver)
  • Queensborough Cannabis (New Westminster)

Original Farm Cannabis has three locations in Greater Victoria: one in Oaklands, one downtown Victoria and one in Langford.
