A 20-year-old man is in custody after a dramatic break-and-enter incident in the Highlands Thursday afternoon.at a rural residence in Highlands.
According to West Shore RCMP, a homeowner returned to their residence to find an intruder inside their residence.
The incident unfolded in the 800-block of Finlayson Arm Road, leaving the community on edge as police asked resident in the area to remain inside.
There was a concern the intruder may have been armed with a firearm inside the residence, prompting an immediate heavy police presence in the area.
At 4:40 p.m., the suspect, who is known to police, surrendered to police with the assistance of a negotiator—he was arrested without incident.
Police recovered a firearm inside the residence after he left the residence.
During the height of the incident, authorities temporarily closed off Finlayson Arm Road, urging the public to steer clear of the area to ensure everyone’s safety.
